Date: September 2, 2026
Water Temp: 48–54°F (65–110 ft Down / 66°F Surface)
Target Species: Chinook (King) Salmon, Rainbow Trout (Steelhead), Coho Salmon, Lake Trout, Brown Trout
Late summer has officially transitioned into early September, and the pre-spawn King Salmon push is peaking off the Southeastern Wisconsin shoreline. With recent wind shifts stabilizing the local thermocline, heavy bait school concentrations have moved slightly closer to harbor gaps, bringing mature, high-weight Chinooks right into primary staging zones. We are running heavy deep-water setups mixed with top-water leadcore lines for active Steelhead and late Coho, while targeting staging Kings with flasher/fly and meat rig combos.

Milwaukee Report: Staging Kings & Deep Copper Spreads
Milwaukee charter runs over the past week have seen heavy action shifting between 90 and 150 feet of water, with mature Kings staging in the 65 to 110 foot depth range. Downrigger spreads running 11-inch chrome, white, and UV flashers paired with Howie, Pickled Sunshine, or Mirage flies have taken the bulk of the big Chinook hits. Out on the boards, 300 to 400-foot coppers pulling Moonshine Super Slims in Wonder Bread and Happy Meal patterns are regularly hooking into big Lake Trout along the bottom structure and high-flying Steelhead on the thermocline.
Racine Report: Harbor-Gap Shifts & Offshore Meat Rigs
Racine trips have produced strong mixed-bag numbers along the sharp drop-offs in 110 to 180 feet of water. Wire Dipsy Divers out 150 to 240 feet with green/gold flashers and meat rigs or flies are pulling big pre-spawn Kings with high consistency. Anglers running short leadcore lines (3 to 6 color) with high-action spoons on top are picking up active Steelhead and lingering Coho. Dropping heavy dodgers and peanut flies straight to the deck continues to yield quick, multi-fish Lake Trout limits to round out full cooler catches.
Lake Michigan Outlook
As September begins, mature King Salmon are at their absolute peak weight before fully pushing into the harbors and rivers for the fall spawn run. Our charter vessels, Leader and Leader II, are out daily tracking these shifting schools with modern Sonar technology. Weekend availability for September is nearly booked out, but select weekday openings remain available for anglers wanting to target trophy salmon before the fall transition completes.
