Fishing Report: Mid-August Salmon & Trout Action in Milwaukee & Racine

Date: August 19, 2026

Water Temp: 48–54°F (60–120 ft Down / 70°F Surface)

Target Species: Chinook (King) Salmon, Coho Salmon, Rainbow Trout (Steelhead), Lake Trout, Brown Trout

Late summer is in full swing on Lake Michigan, and the August fishing action out of Southeastern Wisconsin is as hot as it gets. With warm surface water pushing offshore, cold water has set up deep, concentration baitfish and staging predators into tight thermal bands. We have shifted into late-season tactics—running long copper setups, deep wire divers, and large flasher/fly combos. Mature Kings are gaining serious weight, Lake Trout are bending rods in the deep water, and acrobatic Steelhead are firing off on top.

Milwaukee Report: Deep Copper & Flasher-Fly Spread

Charters out of Milwaukee are finding heavy coolers by heading out to 90 to 140 feet of water and targeting the 60 to 120 foot depth zone. While spoons took most of our early summer fish, the bite has officially transitioned into a heavy flasher and fly program. Deep downriggers paired with 11-inch flashers and Howie Bullfrog or Willy flies are producing violent strikes from staging Chinook Salmon. Out on the sides, 250 to 400-foot copper board lines running Moonshine spoons in Wonder Bread and Happy Meal patterns are pulling quality Kings and heavy Lake Trout from the thermal breaks.

Racine Report: Off-Shore Structure & Big Chromes

Down in Racine, the offshore trolling program remains dialed in. Working the drops in 125 to 180 feet of water continues to produce solid mixed-bag limits. Wire Dipsy Divers out 150 to 250 feet with green and gold squiggle flashers are picking up active Steelhead in the upper water column while keeping mid-depth lines busy with hard-fighting summer Coho. Dropping heavy bottom gear around deep structure is yielding double-digit Lake Trout to round out multi-species days.

Lake Michigan Outlook

Late August and early September offer some of the most exciting fishing of the entire year as mature Kings reach peak size before their fall run. Our premium Tiara Yachts, Leader and Leader II, are fully equipped with state-of-the-art sonar and radar to track these offshore schools in comfort and safety. Weekend slots for the remainder of the summer are virtually sold out, but we still have select weekday dates open to get your family or crew out on the water.
