Milwaukee Report: The Deep-Water Spoon Program
Trips for charter fishing in Milwaukee have found excellent, steady action by pushing out past the harbor gaps into the 120 to 160-foot depths. The King Salmon bite is gaining serious momentum. We are finding success running our deepest downriggers down 70 to 90 feet, loaded with dark UV or glowing spoons to mimic deep baitfish. Higher up in the column, we are still tricking steady numbers of chunky Coho Salmon and the occasional high-jumping Steelhead right along the temperature breaks.
Racine Report: Offshore Steelhead & Salmon Matrix
Down in Racine, the offshore trolling program is delivering phenomenal results. For groups scheduling a charter fishing Racine excursion this week, the target zone has shifted out to the 130 to 170-foot drops. A steady southwesterly breeze has pushed warmer surface water out, leaving a perfect “scum line” that is loaded with insects and bait. We’ve been running a fast-paced spread, pulling spoons in the top 30 feet of water for acrobatic, hard-fighting Steelhead, while keeping our deeper lines active for heavy Coho and massive, bottom-hugging Lake Trout.
