The unofficial start to summer is here, and Lake Michigan is completely showing off. If you are looking for world-class charter fishing in Wisconsin this week, the stars have aligned. Warm weather fronts have stabilized the lake, keeping vast schools of active salmon exactly where we want them. Coolers are filling up fast, and we are starting to see the first major wave of mature spring Kings mixing into our daily catches.
Milwaukee Report: The Spring King Influx
Over the last few days, charter fishing in Milwaukee has transitioned into an incredible multi-species shootout. While hungry Coho Salmon are still dominating the top lines, we’ve found a fantastic deeper bite for heavy-hitting Chinook (King) Salmon. We’ve been finding them out past the harbor structures in 60 to 90 feet of water. Dropping bright green spoons on our downriggers and running flasher-fly combinations down around 40 feet has been triggering those screaming, drag-pulling strikes from the Kings.
Racine Report: Peak Coho Success
Down in Racine, the action has been flat-out relentless. For groups booking a charter fishing Racine trip this week, the Coho salmon are stacked beautifully in the 15 to 30-foot columns. Because the water closer to shore has warmed up, the bite is highly aggressive. Small orange dodgers coupled with two-tone green or aqua peanut flies are getting hit almost as fast as we can drop them back into the water. It’s an ideal setup for families and groups looking for non-stop action.
