It’s that time of year again… leaves are changing colors, temperatures are dropping and fish are migrating to Little Bay de Noc near Escanaba, Michigan. Little Bay de Noc is 30,000 acres of water, and has an estimated walleye population of around 400,000. This can mean some great fishing, especially if you know where to look and what to use! When you book a charter fishing trip with Jack’s, we supply all of the rods, reels and tackle that you will need for your fishing trip. We provide top of the line Shimano rods and reels along with thousands of baits to choose from.
Little Bay de Noc is located off of Lake Michigan between Escanaba & Rapid River, with one of the most popular fishing spots being Center Reef at the north end. Another excellent location is the deep water along the east bank, located from Vagabond Resort and south to Hunter’s Point. Little Bay de Noc is known for trophy walleye and huge smallmouth bass.
When fishing in cooler temperatures, it is important to have the right gear. Weather conditions can vary and can often change by the hour! Below are a few tips to ensure your excursion is a great one!
Be sure to wear layers. You can easily take off layers as the day gets warmer. Remember it is always cooler on the water.
Heavy gloves can be useful for keeping your hands warm. Be sure to bring a back up pair, in case the first pair gets wet from reel spray or are damaged.
Headgear is also a must. You lose a lot of heat through your head so be sure it is covered.
It is a good idea to keep a spare set of clothes with you as well. You never know when they may come in handy or at least for the trip home or back to the resort!
Also recommended later in the season are hand warmers for your hands and feet.
While fishing in the cooler months can be a bit more trying, it also has plenty of benefits. So bring your favorite thermos of soup, tea or coffee (maybe all three), and we’ll see you on the water! Contact us today if you have any questions or to book your Little Bay de Noc fishing charter trip.
