What to Prepare Before Your Ice Fishing Trip

So, you’ve booked a guided ice fishing trip with Jack’s Charter Fishing. Now what? Well, one of the many great things about booking a trip with a fishing charter is that there is much less you need to worry about! Our team provides the fishing equipment you’ll need and sets up the warm cozy shacks that will keep you warm between bites. Our captains provide expert advice and insight into the world of ice fishing. So if you’re a beginner ice-fisher, no worries! Jack’s Charter Fishing has you covered.

But, before you can set off on the frozen waters of Lake Michigan, there are a few things you’ll need to do to ensure you’re ready for the trip. So, before heading out for adventure, make sure you know what you’ll be doing, where you’ll be going, and what you’ll need before starting.

Securing a Fishing License

One of the most important things to obtain before your trip is a valid fishing license. We do not provide or sell fishing licenses on our fishing excursions. So, it’s imperative that you purchase a Wisconsin Fishing license and Great Lakes Trout / Salmon Stamp before you get to the boat. You will need to bring a paper copy of your license with you per Wisconsin DNR rules for outlying waters. You can purchase your license online or you can stop by any bait and tackle shop or local outdoor stores to obtain yours.

Starting Your Adventure

Your ice fishing adventure starts at the Pugh Marina in Racine, Wisconsin. Our captain will meet you there on the day of your trip to get you loaded up and ready to fish. To ensure your arrival at Pugh Marina, you will use the address of the former John’s Dock Restaurant because of its proximity to the boat slip. So, when you’re piling in the car the morning of your excursion, make sure to use the following address to get you to the right place: 303 Dodge St., Racine, WI 53402.

Once you arrive at the marina, you will need to park your car and head to the boat slip. There is a parking lot on the other side of Dodge Street, which is located steps away from the boat. Once you’re parked, grab whatever personal items you plan to bring, make sure you’re bundled up for the winter weather and head to the boat slip! Your captain will be ready and waiting at the boat at the time of your scheduled trip.
